My memories of eating at L'Arrosseria Xativa are admittedly hazy. It was our first dinner in Barcelona after landing earlier that morning, which means that both my wife and I were deep in the throes of jet-lag. I must have been on my fourth or fifth "wind" at the time of our dinner reservation, but what I can recall about our meal makes me glad I stayed awake.
Our very encouraging server helped guide our exhaustion-addled minds through a satisfying meal. While they serve the pan con tomate with some assembly required, my lovely wife was up to the task. We'll be replicating this simple recipe at home as often as I allow myself to consume carbs.
Speaking of carbs, the paella here is excellent. The seafood, like in all of Barcelona, is fresh and delicious. Combining that with a lovely seasonal wine pairing (again, loved the enthusiasm of the staff!) really tied the meal together.
Closing things out with a traditional Catalan Cream and dessert wine rounded things out nicely. As we navigated the fog of exhaustion back to our AirBnB, we were able to rest assured that our first dinner in Barcelona set a high bar for things to come.
My friend and I are in Barcelona for multiple days and eating loads of tapas and other goodies - this is the best meal, atmosphere, and staff BY FAR! Truly excellent paella and outstanding wine recommendation. The best part, however, was our waiter Carlos, whose excellent customer service and patience with our terrible Spanish made the experience unforgettable. He and the rest of the staff are attentive and accomodating, even throwing in Spanish conversation tips while we waited for the paella to reach perfection.
What's more, my friend is vegetarian and there were several options for her, all delicious!
Definitely worth a foray into the lively Gracia neighborhood!
I don't usually eat rice, but when I do, it's paella and it's in Barcelona. We had the seasonal paella with mushrooms and shrimp. It was quite good. I loved all of the different types of mushrooms in there. However, I personally could have used a hit of lemon or spice. The paella for two is huge, we took half of it back. Definitely make a reservation if coming on a Saturday.
